The Vacancy
Watertrain are looking for an experienced Water Technician Coach to provide coaching support to their apprentice technicians.
This is a full-time/permanent position.
We are looking for someone who has extensive experience as a Water Technician and now wants to share their knowledge with new apprentice technicians.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and structure on-the-job coaching activities that reflect real-world water network operations, ensuring apprentices gain practical competence in line with industry standards.
- Deliver practical, experience-led training sessions, drawing on real site scenarios, faults, and operational challenges of up to 15 learners.
- Coach and assess apprentices on core water industry skills – including leakage detection, repairs, network maintenance, and safe working practices. This is both off and on site.
- Support both new starters and experienced operatives by sharing practical knowledge, trade skills, and best practice.
- Act as a dedicated technical mentor to a group of apprentices, supporting their progression to full competence within agreed program timescales.
- A program start, work with employers and apprentices to agree clear development milestones linked to operational competence and job readiness.
- Regularly review apprentice progress with both the learner and employer, ensuring they are developing the technical skills and behaviors required for frontline water operations.
- Record and evidence apprentice technical development, identifying any skill gaps early and providing targeted coaching support where needed.
- Work within required quality and assessment frameworks to ensure training meets industry and awarding body standards.
- Provide regular, practical feedback to apprentices based on observed performance, workplace evidence, and real job outputs.
- Review and support completion of apprentice evidence portfolios, ensuring they accurately reflect real work activities and achieved technical competence.
- Complete assessment paperwork to the required audit standards.
- Maintain and update knowledge of the subject/professional area and cooperate in any staff development activities required to effectively carry out the duties of the post and to participate in review and development schemes.
- Comply with safeguarding procedures, ensuring learners understand the importance of safeguarding.
- Act with honesty and integrity to maintain high standards of ethics and professional standards.

Qualifications and Experience:
- Experienced in water distribution networks and water leakage with potentially supervisory or management experience
- Confident in one’s knowledge and experience and excited at the prospect of helping others in their careers
- A team player with good IT and communication skills
- A willingness to travel and away from home to deliver on client sites

The evidence portfolio we designed for each qualification can generate the competency and knowledge to achieve 70% for End Point Assessment in the Water Process Technician Apprenticeship Standard.
