Role Overview

Position: Water Treatment Proposals Engineer Location: Norwich or Coventry

We’re looking for a proactive and detail-driven Proposals Engineer to join our Water Technologies team. Reporting to the Sales Director, you’ll help turn customer requirements into high-quality technical proposals, supporting our growth and maintaining our excellent industry reputation.


Key Responsibilities

Core Tasks

  • Preparing and issuing tenders that meet customer specifications while aligning with company margin expectations.
  • Reviewing tender documents, engineering designs and electrical specifications, collaborating with internal experts to ensure every proposal delivers the right solution.
  • Working closely with internal departments on handovers once orders are secured.
  • Attending occasional site visits and client meetings to support tender development and reviews.
  • Discussing proposals, alternatives and technical approaches directly with clients.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Supporting general tendering administration, ensuring sales databases remain accurate and up to date.
  • Identifying process inefficiencies and contributing to streamlined procedures for continuous improvement.
  • Ensuring consistent order input alignment with budgets.
  • Preparing high-standard tender documentation, including:
    • Enquiries meeting agreed content, delivery time, and margin criteria.
    • Meeting submission deadlines.
    • Protecting financial margins and cashflow conditions while reflecting company quality standards.
  • Following up on submitted tenders, entering negotiations to secure winning orders.
  • Communicating order details across the business and attending handover meetings as required.
  • Maintaining strong working relationships with all departments to support learning and improvement.
  • Providing support within the tendering department during periods of holiday or sickness.

About You

We’re seeking someone who combines technical understanding with a customer-focused approach. Key attributes include:

Essential Requirements

  • HNC-level education (or equivalent) in Engineering or Science.
  • Relevant industry experience.
  • Experience working collaboratively, both within teams and directly with customers.
  • Strong IT proficiency, particularly with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Self-starter with excellent organisational and time-management skills.
  • A positive “can-do” attitude, committed to delivering quality and value.
  • Clear, confident, and professional communication skills, with diplomacy.
  • Commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, and Equal Opportunities.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage competing priorities.

Desirable Attributes

  • Experience in tendering, water treatment, or related technical fields.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and commercial negotiation techniques.
