About The Role
Balfour Beatty is offering an exciting opportunity for a Wayleave Warden to join their Power Transmission & Distribution team, supporting the BTNO Project in Assington, Suffolk. This key role is responsible for securing third-party consents and access agreements, ensuring safe and timely project delivery.
Role Overview
As Wayleave Warden, you will:
- Manage land access and consents in line with project timelines
- Act as a critical interface between grantors, clients, local authorities, and the project team
Responsibilities
Site & Land Access Management
- Liaise with the Client Wayleave Officer to:
- Confirm land take areas during site visits (accompanied by Engineers and General Foreman)
- Finalise access positions and tower work routes
- Outline damage limitation actions
- Ensure tree/shrub clearance requirements are recorded in the wayleave schedule
- Identify and mark utilities using:
- engineers’ drawings
- markings from drawings
- third-party data
- ground scanning techniques
Stakeholder Coordination
- Collaborate with local authorities, Highways Agency, Police, etc. regarding road/footpath closures or restrictions
- Work with the Client Wayleave Officer to resolve daily access issues, requests from grantors, and changes to access routes

Process Improvement & Compliance
- Implement a system (e.g., red dot on F10 board) to alert the project team of access route changes
- Establish a controlled access maps system to ensure only up-to-date drawings are in use
- Review all wayleave-specific method statements and risk assessments
Safety & Induction Responsibilities
- Update daily locations board
- Ensure site visitors complete Balfour Beatty induction procedures
- Perform MSR (Management Safety Representative) checks on:
- Working practices
- In collaboration with Site Engineering Team and Health & Safety advisor
Who We’re Looking For
Essential Skills & Experience
- Exceptional communication and negotiating skills
- Understanding of agricultural grantor requirements and land agent dynamics
- Ability to work as part of a diverse team
- Full (clean) driving licence
Desirable Skills &Experience
- Reasonable knowledge of civil engineering and excavation processes
- Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) awareness or experience
- Understanding of underground utility and overhead infrastructure restraints
- Familiarity with traffic management legislation
