Join Colchester Institute - Where Your Career Makes a Difference
At Colchester Institute, we believe in the power of education to transform lives and communities. As one of the leading providers of education and training in the region, we are proud to offer a dynamic, supportive, and forward-thinking working environment.
We are seeking a WBL Assessor Trainer - Plumbing to join our team.
In this role you will evaluate the skills, knowledge, and competence of learners or apprentices working in plumbing and heating. The sits between teaching and quality control, you will make sure learners can do the job safely and to industry standards, not just understand it in theory. At the core, the job is about assessment and verification. This usually involves observing candidates on-site (for example, installing pipework, boilers, or heating systems), asking questions to test their understanding, and reviewing evidence like job reports or completed projects. The assessor checks that the work meets required standards such as building regulations and health and safety rules.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
