Job Description
Location: Wincanton Dedicated Grocery for ASDA LARNE, 1 Redlands Crescent, Larne, BT40 1AX
Shifts: Mixture of day & late shifts on a rotating pattern between 6am and 8pm
About the Role
An opportunity has arisen for a Transport Department Manager to join our Asda site based in Larne for approximately 10 months (maternity cover). The Transport Department Manager role is to assist in the provision of an effective and efficient transport management and administration service and to be able to provide accurate management information.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Managing a team and the operation within the daily area of responsibility.
- Ability to make quick decisions with an ever-changing dynamic plan.
- Brief and De-Brief drivers at start and end of their shifts.
- Monitoring performance to ensure the depot achieves high performance levels and the efficient and effective provision of a quality service to stores and the customer.
- To ensure the transport operation achieves the targeted daily and weekly KPIs.
- To work as part of a flexible team to ensure high levels of service are achieved.
- Ensure new starters within the department are aware of their overall responsibilities with regards to the environment and health and safety.
- Ability to challenge poor and promote good health and safety practices.
- Leading by example, encouraging colleague’s performance.
- To play a key role in the continual improvement of process/ methods of the sites operating procedures.
- Update and/or maintain systems and equipment.
- Utilise computer related software as may be introduced to further the performance of your duty. Accept new systems, methods and technology together with associated training.
- To provide the store network with a first-class service, ensuring the department operates within the legal constraints of the site operator’s licence.
- To carry out investigations, disciplinary and grievance hearings as required.
- Managing the absence levels within the transport team by conducting return to work interviews and absence meetings.
- Managing Performance Management reviews.
- To undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required for effective operation of the Transport Department.

Person Specification
Essential Experience, Skills And Attributes
- Enthusiastic and highly organised individual, preferably with a proven track record in Transport.
- Sound planning and people management skills.
- Good geographical knowledge of Northern Ireland.
- GCSE grades A-C in English and Maths (or equivalent).
- A good understanding of drivers’ hours and Working Time Directive.
- A proactive, positive approach to problem solving, the ability to create options and solutions and evaluate opportunities and risks.
- Experience of absence, performance, investigation, disciplinary and grievance procedures.
- Capability to understand and use IT and systems to deliver transport and distribution objectives.
- A clear ability to operate under pressure when outside factors cause delays to the business.
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to influence and communicate with people at all levels, both internally and externally.
- Exemplary attendance and flexibility required.

Desirable Experience, Skills And Attributes
- CPC qualification.
- 3 years relevant experience in a logistics or manufacturing sector.
- Management experience.
