Wealth Adviser - Founding Team Member

BACKGROUND

Our name says it: most people spend years chasing financial freedom, and when it arrives, they don't know what to do with it. FreeThenWhat exists to answer that question - before it's even asked.

We're a purpose-led planning firm, which means we start with what clients actually want from their lives, and build the financial plan around that. It changes the quality of the conversation, and the quality of the advice.

Having previously founded both VouchedFor and Octopus Money, we’re used to doing things differently. This time, we’ve re-engineered roles, to build a model with real quality and scale.

Client Partners own the relationship and the life planning conversation - they understand the client's world, ask the questions that matter, and surface what's really going on. Each Client Partner serves a niche, and is from that niche. An ex-partner from a consulting firm, now working with others considering their exit. A senior female executive, now working with high-achieving women navigating the financial complexity that comes with success. A former divorce mediator, now helping people rebuild their finances after divorce. An empty-nester, now helping others navigate the same lifestage.

Quick to recruit, train and scale; yet incredibly powerful for clients. And a meaningful, lucrative new career for Client Partners.

Wealth Advisers (you’ll be among our first!) focus on translating these life plans into rigorous, technically sound financial plans. No business development, no client acquisition. You’ll develop the advice, and present it to the client. The Client Partner will own the overall relationship. It's a cleaner model, and it produces better outcomes: clients who feel genuinely understood, and advisers who can focus on technical mastery.

THE VISION

We’re starting small, but the long term vision is bold. We see a future with thousands of Client Partners, serving hundreds of niches, in the UK and far beyond.

We're building something for generations, not an exit. Not backed by private equity or institutions. Owned by the people who matter; our team, partners, and clients. The people joining now are building the foundations - technically and culturally.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

In a sense, we're answering our own question. For us, after our exits, "free, then what?" became: free, now this. We're building the kind of firm we want to work at, forever.

FLEXIBILITY

We hold internal meetings between 10am–12pm and 1–3pm. Eight weeks holiday. We trust you to manage the rest around client needs.

We believe in supporting primary and secondary carers when they have a child, and will implement progressive policies as soon as we are able to - we expect within 12-18 months.

THE ROLE

These are our first few Wealth Adviser hires. The role carries specific weight, and a specific kind of freedom.

You will work with clients whose finances span decades of decisions: pensions, ISAs, property, business equity, and increasingly, cross-jurisdictional complexity. Client Partners bring you a rich understanding of clients’ lives and priorities. You build the forecasts, plans and advice around that. Custom wealth horizons, not generic buckets. Multiple scenarios. Defensible, technically sound, genuinely personal.

We will support you to become a Registered Life Planner, or to develop equivalent depth in life planning and behavioural finance, if you don't already have this. These are not peripheral to the role. They are the point.

We are also building the advice framework itself. How we structure wealth across different timeframes. How we handle tax, risk, liquidity, legacy, and modern exposures like currency risk and cyber. You will have real input into all of it, working directly with our founders.

You will also help us work out how AI fits into the process. Not to automate judgement, but to deepen it.

As the team grows, there is a path to building and leading a Wealth Adviser function, if that is what you want. For now, we need someone who wants to advise clients well, and who will tell us honestly when something is broken, or needs re-engineering.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are building a diverse and inclusive culture, which reflects the breadth of clients we serve.

This role is for someone with 3+ years experience as an adviser, either now realising their values don't align with their firm's, or that you want to be part of something bigger. You know the difference between purpose-led planning, goal-led planning, and product-led planning; and you care about it. Perhaps you like the idea of building and leading a whole team of advisers; but you're happy to first roll up your sleeves and perform as one of them.

The relevant qualifications are:

  • Genuine belief in life planning as a method, not a marketing position
  • Chartered Financial Planner or equivalent, or actively working toward it
  • Experience with holistic financial planning across complex client situations
  • Comfort with improving, not just operating: processes, frameworks, early culture
  • Curiosity about what AI makes possible
  • 3+ years experience advising clients (holding Competent Adviser Status)

OUR CLIENTS

Professionals and entrepreneurs with complex finances and not enough time to think about them. Typically £500k–£5M across savings, investments and pensions, aged 45–65. Or people who will reach that position within five years.

THE PACKAGE

Up to £120k total compensation. You choose the split between salary, pension, and equity. The equity matters — this is a business owned by the people building it, not by institutions.

LOCATION

Remote to start, with team meetups in London every week or two. We expect to open an office in SW London within six to twelve months, with up to three days a week there after that.

IF THIS IS THE RIGHT MOMENT FOR YOU

Let’s have a call. We'll talk through where we are, what the role involves in practice, and whether the timing and fit make sense - for both sides.

No lengthy application process at this stage. A conversation first.
