I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What will you need to succeed? You're likely to be an experienced Financial Planner, Wealth Manager or Wealth Director who has already built significant Assets Under Advice and now wants more influence over the future direction of a business. You may currently feel constrained by bureaucracy, lack of autonomy or limited growth opportunities. This role offers the chance to take ownership, make decisions and build something meaningful. You'll be equally comfortable discussing complex planning strategies with clients as you are shaping a business plan, mentoring advisers and presenting performance metrics to the board. You must hold the minimum L4 Diploma in Financial Advice and ideally be Chartered, close to, or willing to become.

Why us? This firm are part of The Openwork Partnership, who are one of the UKs largest and longest established financial advice networks. There are many benefits of being part of something bigger including the ownership structure - The Openwork Partnership is owned by its firms, Bain Capital and its employees. It boasts a broad proposition with deep ties to providers and has some serious resources at its disposal. It puts the development of its colleagues, advisers and firm support staff first with its very own Business School. The Openwork Foundation, who have donated over £22m to UK registered charities since it was founded, is a great opportunity for everyone to get involved and give back to the community it serves.
