About Arden Web
We are a dynamic web agency based in Beeston (Nottingham), focused on developing fast, secure, and performance-driven PHP custom systems. We primarily build with native PHP/MySQL environments with modern frameworks, always emphasising clean code, accessibility, and scalability.
The Role
We are looking for a technically skilled Web Developer with strong experience in native PHP and MySQL. The ideal candidate will be comfortable maintaining and developing custom websites and applications, integrating APIs, and optimising databases.
- Experience with Git version control and/or Microsoft Azure deployment pipelines is highly desirable.
- This role begins on a per-project basis, with the potential to grow into a long-term or permanent position for the right person.

What You’ll Do
- Build and maintain websites using PHP/MySQL, ensuring speed, stability, and best security practices.
- Work with clean, modular, and well-documented code.
- Manage repositories and collaborate through Git or Azure DevOps.
- Configure servers, handle migrations, and troubleshoot performance issues.
- Develop or integrate APIs and custom functionality as required.
- Collaborate with the design and strategy team in our Beeston office (hybrid working available).
What We Need From You
- Solid experience in PHP and MySQL, including writing queries, building classes, and managing databases.
- Familiarity with Git version control workflows.
- Understanding of modern hosting and deployment environments (Azure experience is a plus).
- Competence with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for front-end integration.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently on bespoke solutions.
- Good communication and collaborative mindset in a hybrid working setup.

Nice to Have (But Not Essential)
- Experience with WordPress theme or plugin development.
- Knowledge of RESTful API design and JSON handling.
- Exposure to modern PHP frameworks.
- Familiarity with performance optimisation and caching techniques.
