Weekend Veterinary Care Assistant
We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Veterinary Care Assistant to join our friendly and experienced team, supporting our busy hospital services at Woodstock and North Oxford. Medivet 24 Hour Woodstock is a modern, well-equipped veterinary hospital and the central hub of the Oxford region. We are committed to providing high-quality, honest veterinary care to pets day and night. Located on the edge of the beautiful Cotswolds, Woodstock offers excellent access to Oxford city centre. Our recently refurbished hospital features advanced facilities including a CT scanner, digital radiography, and dedicated inpatient and emergency care areas. This role offers an exciting opportunity to become a valued member of a supportive and collaborative team. We are looking for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, is eager to learn, and takes pride in delivering excellent patient care and supporting colleagues across the practice. As a Veterinary Care Assistant, you will play an important role in the day-to-day running of the hospital and practice. Duties will include supporting the nursing and veterinary teams, caring for inpatients, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene, preparing equipment, assisting with patient handling, and ensuring our patients receive the highest standard of care and comfort throughout their stay. The successful candidate will be keen to develop their skills and knowledge, becoming a dependable and reliable member of the team. You will gain exposure to a wide variety of cases, including routine procedures, medical and surgical patients, emergency presentations, and critical care cases, providing an excellent learning environment for those looking to build their veterinary career. This is a permanent position working: Two 10-hour shifts every weekend (Saturday and Sunday) Two additional shifts during the week, based at either Woodstock 24-Hour Hospital or North Oxford Practice We are looking for someone who: Has a genuine passion for animal care and welfare Enjoys working as part of a team and supporting colleagues Is proactive, organised, and able to work efficiently in a busy environment Demonstrates compassion towards patients and excellent customer service towards clients Is eager to learn and develop within a hospital setting Can be relied upon as a key member of the weekend and weekday teams In return, you'll join a welcoming team with a wealth of experience, where your contribution is valued and where you'll have the opportunity to learn from a varied caseload while helping to deliver exceptional care to our patients. About You
You’re skilled at providing exceptional client care and are passionate about caring for pets. You’re a team player who wants to make a real difference in a practice that values and supports you.
We welcome applications from candidates able to prioritise, remain calm under pressure and who are flexible and willing to learn.
This role is not suitable for young workers in line with Health and Safety Executive (government) direction due to the expected duties of the role. Therefore, you will be asked to confirm that you are over the age of 18 as part of the application process.
What You’ll Be Doing
Typically, in this role, you’ll:
Deliver exceptional care to clients, supporting surgeries and procedures, complying with all regulatory, practice and operational standards Deliver patient monitoring and care to pets, including walking, toileting and feeding Work collaboratively within a supportive team
