Welder

Wrought Welder (Steel Fabrication)

Navantia UK is driving progress in British industry, supporting the UK’s defence, energy, and maritime ambitions. As part of Navantia SA—Spain’s state-owned shipbuilding leader with over 300 years of experience—Navantia UK combines Harland & Wolff’s historic UK heritage with global expertise, reinforcing Britain’s industrial capabilities.

Following the 2025 acquisition of Harland & Wolff and its four Belfast, Appeldore, Methil, and Arrochar sites, we are expanding our shipbuilding, marine and energy sector teams to deliver cutting-edge sovereign defence and infrastructure projects.

Job Summary

You will perform manual and machine welding—fillet and butt joints—on large steel structural assemblies and ship sections. Projects span new-build naval & marine work, alongside ship repairs, demanding flexibility between fabrication rigs (for naval platforms) and overhaul shops (mechanical, hull, and superstructure).

With heavy plate metal (e.g., 12–40mm thick), you’ll work independently in compliance with high quality, safety and production targets.

Responsibilities

Primary Tasks

  • Maintain a safe working environment, following safety protocols and current legislation.
  • Interpret welding symbols from engineering drawings (blueprints, CAD) to ensure builds meet all design requirements.
  • Understand and apply Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS)—including essential variables—and quality control rules.
  • Set up welding equipment (LEV systems, gas supplies, MIG/TIG rigs & automated tools), organise workstations for efficiency.
  • Perform flat, overhead, horizontal, and vertical-position welding strictly to procedural control and good practices.
  • Inspect welds for defects, troubleshoot faults, and correct issues.
  • Grind weld profiles when necessary to smooth seams and prepare for next-stage operations.
  • Operate semi-/fully automatic welding systems (mill and helical lines) provided your qualifications allow.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
