WHAT IS IN IT FOR YOU?

  • Welding Engineer (IWE/EWE) level up to £70K OR Welding Technologist (IWT) level circa £60K with facilitation of completion of Diploma Qualification

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Welding Engineer to oversee and optimise welding processes for line pipe manufacturing projects. This role is critical in ensuring weld quality, performance efficiency, and timely delivery aligned with business KPIs.

The successful candidate will have strong technical expertise in welding processes including mechanised SAW, MAG/GMAW, and MMA/SMAW, ideally within a high-volume heavy manufacturing or fabrication environment.

THE ROLE

  • Continuously monitor, develop and improve welding procedures to ensure quality, integrity, and compliance with standards
  • Conduct R&D activities to enhance weld properties and expand SAW mill capabilities
  • Identify and implement new welding technologies, materials, and techniques
  • Provide technical welding support across projects
  • Ensure welding operations meet takt time and KPI targets
  • Monitor, analyse, and improve welding productivity and efficiency
  • Support on-time, in-full project delivery
  • Manage welding procedures and welder qualification portfolios
  • Ability to Inspect welds, ensuring compliance with design specifications and standards
  • Authorise and manage welding-related documentation and procedures
  • Work closely with engineering, production, QA/QC teams, suppliers, and clients
  • Provide technical guidance and hands-on support to production teams
  • Support training and development of the welding team
  • Manage consumables procurement and supplier relationships
  • Prepare and present technical reports and performance data

THE PERSON

  • IWE/EWE (International/European Welding Engineer Diploma) – IIW/EWF certified (or near completion)
  • Degree in Engineering or related discipline (preferred)
  • Professional registration (e.g. CEng or IEng) is desirable
  • Proven experience as a Welding Engineer in heavy manufacturing or fabrication
  • Strong knowledge of welding processes, particularly SAW, GMAW/MAG, and SMAW/MMA
  • Solid understanding of welding safety standards and procedures
  • Experience in weld inspection and quality assurance
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot welding issues
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • High attention to detail, particularly in documentation and compliance
  • Knowledge of metallurgy and material selection
  • Ability to interpret technical standards and specifications
