About Us

At MacTaggart Scott, we’ve been engineering innovative solutions for the Naval Defence industry since 1898. We provide complete support from initial concept and design through to manufacture, commissioning, and lifetime maintenance.

While we’re proud of our heritage, our focus is firmly on the future. We believe in continuous improvement, smart investment, and business excellence at every level. Join a company where tradition meets innovation and where your skills directly contribute to projects of national importance.

The Role

We’re seeking an experienced Welding Inspector to join our Quality Department. You’ll play a key role in ensuring that all welding activities before, during, and after fabrication meet the highest standards of quality and compliance.

Reporting to the Chief Inspector, you’ll carry out inspections, dimensional checks, and non-destructive testing (NDT) processes, supporting our commitment to delivering precision-engineered, reliable products to our clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform pre-, during-, and post-weld inspections in line with drawings, standards, and company procedures.
  • Carry out dimensional checks and Visual NDT during and after welding operations.
  • Support defect investigation and root-cause analysis, ensuring effective corrective and preventative actions.
  • Record and maintain inspection data accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Assist in reducing rework and repair rates through proactive inspection and feedback.
  • Conduct periodic audits of welding processes and assist with client inspections.
  • Collaborate with the Quality Department to ensure contractual and regulatory compliance.
  • Promote a strong Health, Safety, and Quality culture across the workshop.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
