Nurse Team Leader – Wellbeing Service

The Role
Based at Gartnavel Royal Hospital, this position will lead the Wellbeing Service, ensuring all inpatients benefit from enhanced interventions, social engagement, and recreational activities designed to improve their experience and facilitate recovery. This service aligns with person-centred care planning, involving the multidisciplinary team (MDT), patients, and their families.
As a Nurse Team Leader, you will:
- Manage the professional and operational leadership, supervision, and development of nursing staff in the Wellbeing Service.
- Support patient-centred, recovery-focused, trauma-informed care across adult and older adult mental health services.
- Oversee equitable and high-quality service delivery through collaboration with the multidisciplinary team (MDT).
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategic Accountability
- Hanle clinical governance, including care assurance, standards compliance, and professional regulatory requirements.
- Ensure response to complaints, staff governance, and clinical supervision align with job demands.
- Develop and oversee profit performance, audits, and evidence-based care pathways.
- Promote service development, with a focus on clinical effectiveness and quality improvement.
Team Management & Clinical Practice
- Manage a team of nursing staff, demonstrating leadership qualities and legal/ethical compliance.
- Supervise nursing line teams and provide ongoing professional development.
- Deliver recreational, social, and therapeutic activities tailored to patients’ mental health needs and recovery goals.

Service Delivery & Collaboration
- Partner with key stakeholders, including the Inpatient Volunteer Service Manager, to sustain the Wellbeing framework.
- Drive interventions aligned with:
- Interests & leisure activities (enjoyment beyond illness).
- Social engagement (meeting others, playful activities).
- Mental wellbeing (understanding and living with mental health challenges while promoting recovery).
- Physical wellness (exercise, nutrition, self-management).
- Community connections (vocational support, housing, employment, debt management).
Support Structures
- Report to the Inpatient Services Manager for guidance, performance reviews, appraisals, and supervision.
- Operate within legal and ethical frameworks: Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) Code, mental health legislation, and national/local policies.
Location & Working Pattern
- Full-time, 36-hour role (Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM with extended availability for weekend/evening activities for planned events).
- Base: Gartnavel Royal Hospital
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required
- Registered Mental Health Nurse with post-registration experience.
- Strong leadership ability in nurse management and team supervision.
- Ability to integrate recreational and occupational therapy principles into mental health recovery.
- Commitment to evidence-based practice in outpatient care.
- Familiarity with NHS governance frameworks, professional regulations, and clinical supervision protocols.
