Wellbeing and Activities Coordinator
Activities Coordinator – Rotherham Hospice
Location: The Rotherham Hospice (with some community/partner venue work) Salary: £26,924 – £30,375 per annum Hours: 37.5 hrs/week (5-day roster, Mon–Sun)

About the Role
The Activities Coordinator forms part of the Wellbeing and Activities Team, designing and delivering enriching activities to elevate the lives of patients and families. You’ll tailor programmes to individual needs, fostering creativity, connection, and gentle joy within the "Living Life’s Wishes" ethos.
Key Responsibilities Analyse your tasks below for clarity, engagement, and seamless delivery:
- Planning & Co-ordination
- Collaborate with the Wellbeing and Activities Manager, clinical staff, patients, and families to craft diverse activity calendars.
- Customise schedules (weekly/monthly) for all hospice departments (including Inpatient Unit & Supportive Care), ensuring clarity for participants and staff.
- Adapt activities for diverse needs (e.g., mobility/neurological limitations, sensory preferences) and cultural contexts.
- Set up/reset spaces, materials, and resources pre/post-activities.

Engagement & Support
- Lead one-to-one or small-group sessions—at the hospice and adaptable settings (e.g., outreach/partner venues).
- Encourage participation while respecting fluctuating energy and emotional states.
- Balance encouragement with autonomy, allowing withdrawal without judgement.
- Empower patients to reconnect with personal passions/interests.

Teamwork & Volunteer Coaching
- Work with nurses, care teams, Complimentary Therapists, Hairdressers, and volunteers to align and enhance programme outcomes.
- Mentor volunteers to guarantee confidence, safety, and engagement in delivered activities.
- Share anonymous, patient-centred insight with colleagues to inform future sessions.

Safety, Quality & Record-Keeping
- Adhere to risk assessments, Infection Prevention & Control, and all relevant hospice policies.
- Use equipment/provide session environments safely (report issues promptly).
- Maintain concise, accurate logs of attendance and minimal feedback per policies.

Person Specification
Essential
- Proven experience in designing/deploying activities, recreation, or group-based enrichment for adults (healthcare, social care, community—or similar sectors).
- Teamwork expertise within support/service-oriented roles (preferably integrated care/wellbeing).
- Ability to plan and lead engaged, meaningful individual/small-group activities** (educational or purely recreational).
- Strong communication—listening, rapport-building, and sensitivity to diverse audiences.
- Keen flexibility: rapidly adapting activities for varying capacities and needs.
- Basic organisational IT skills (email, simple data entry).
Desired (Bonus)
- Direct experience working with seriously ill clients, disabled individuals, those with dementia, or frailty.
- Qualification/training in models such as reminiscence therapy, music therapy, arts in health, occupational therapy (or comparable).
- Passionate personal interests to share (e.g., art, crafts, music, nursing, sport, horticulture).
- Comfort with simple evaluation methods (e.g., light feedback tracking or session debriefs).
