Activities Coordinator – Rotherham Hospice
Location: The Rotherham Hospice, with some work in the community or partner venues
Salary: £26,924 – £30,375 per annum
Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Sunday (5-day week)

Rotherham Hospice is a charity dedicated to the people of Rotherham, offering specialist palliative and end-of-life care since 1996.
About The Role
The Activities Coordinator works within the Wellbeing & Activities service, planning and delivering meaningful activities that enhance the quality of life for patients and families.
The role involves organising and facilitating activities in hospice inpatient units, supportive care services, and other settings, including:
- Social and recreational activities
- Creative and artistic engagements
- Relaxation and seasonal events
The coordinator ensures activities align with Living Life’s Wishes, offering person-centred, safe, and inclusive experiences.
Key Responsibilities
Planning and Coordinating Activities
- Collaborate with the Wellbeing & Activities Manager, clinical teams, patients, and families to design a varied, engaging programme.
- Develop weekly/monthly activity schedules and ensure clear communication to participants and staff.
- Adapt activities to meet physical, cognitive, and cultural needs.
- Prepare and maintain resources for activities, ensuring spaces are safe and tidy.

Delivering Activities and Supporting Patients
- Lead group and individual activities across hospice and partnered venues.
- Encourage participation while respecting fluctuating energy levels and personal comfort.
- Support patients in maintaining connections to their own hobbies and interests.
Working with Staff and Volunteers
- Partner with nursing, therapy, and care teams to identify patients benefiting from activities.
- Train and supervise volunteers ensuring confidence and inclusion.
- Share relevant patient feedback (respecting confidentiality) to inform future activity choices.
Quality, Safety & Documentation
- Adhere to risk assessments and hospice policies, including:
- Infection control
- Activity and outing guidelines
- Ensure safe equipment handling and report issues promptly.
- Document activity participation and feedback in line with hospice procedures.

Personal Specification
Essential
✔ Experience in planning or delivering activities for adults in:
- Healthcare
- Care settings
- Community programmes ✔ Ability to work collaboratively in a care environment. ✔ Skills to plan and lead simple, engaging activities for individuals/small groups. ✔ Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including:
- Active listening
- Building rapport with diverse populations ✔ Ability to customise activities for varying abilities and preferences. ✔ Basic organisation and time management skills. ✔ Proficiency in IT for email and data entry.
Desired (but not essential)
✔ Experience working with people affected by serious illness, disability, dementia, or frailty. ✔ Relevant qualifications in activities, arts, health and wellbeing, or related fields. ✔ Creative skills (art, craft, music, gardening, reading, etc.) to share with patients. ✔ Ability to contribute to simple evaluation feedback processes.
