As a Wellbeing Assistant / Gym Instructor at Ledian Gardens Retirement Village in Maidstone, you will play an important role in supporting residents to stay active, healthy, and socially connected within a welcoming village environment. This role is ideal for someone passionate about wellbeing, fitness, and customer care. You will help deliver engaging wellbeing activities, support safe and effective use of the gym facilities, and encourage residents to enjoy an active and independent lifestyle. The Role

As a Wellbeing Assistant / Gym Instructor, you will report to the Community and Wellbeing Manager, working closely with them to support community activities, events, and resident wellbeing initiatives across the village.

Gym & Wellbeing

  • Managing the day-to-day operation of the gym and wellbeing facilities, ensuring opening and closing procedures are followed
  • Checking, documenting, and maintaining the safety and condition of all gym equipment
  • Providing fitness assessments, consultations, inductions, and guidance on healthy lifestyles
  • Setting up, supporting, and running gym classes; delivering classes where qualified (instructor experience desirable)
  • Supporting swimming pool maintenance, with full training provided

Facilities & Cleaning

  • Taking responsibility for the cleanliness and presentation of the gym, swimming pool, sauna, steam room, and changing areas
  • Carrying out regular cleaning tasks to ensure facilities remain hygienic, safe, and welcoming

Marketing & Community Engagement

  • Promoting gym memberships, wellbeing programmes, and fitness classes to residents and visitors
  • Supporting the development and delivery of marketing initiatives for the health and well-being facilities
  • Being actively involved in village social activities, events, and promotions
  • Assisting with the planning, organisation, and smooth delivery of community wellbeing events

Health & Safety

  • Carrying out regular pool, steam room, and water hygiene checks and accurately recording results
  • Removing faulty or unsafe equipment from use and reporting issues promptly
  • Ensuring full compliance with pool, gym, steam room, and communal area policies and procedures
  • Maintaining a strong awareness of health, safety, and well-being standards across all facilities

Key Requirements

  • A recognised fitness instructor or coaching qualification, ideally to Level 3, to support and deliver group exercise classes
  • Experience working with a diverse customer base, ideally including people aged 55 and over
  • A good working knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, particularly within a gym, pool, or wellbeing environment
  • Willingness to undertake additional training, including pool maintenance and water hygiene.
  • A flexible approach to working hours, responding to the evolving needs of the village and its residents
  • A friendly, approachable manner with strong communication skills and a genuine passion for wellbeing and community engagement
