About the Role
The Board of Directors of Coleg Sir Gar and Coleg Ceredigion seeks a Wellbeing Mentor to provide tailored support to learners—or potential learners—who are at risk of becoming Not in Employment, Education or Training (NEET). This role is pivotal in overcoming barriers to learning and ensuring successful learner outcomes.
As a member of the Wellbeing Team, the Wellbeing Mentor will complement the existing Learner Experience network and collaborate closely with Curriculum Areas and other college staff to create a cohesive support system.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide mentoring support to targeted individual learners
- Undertake referral and assessment processes
- Maintain internal documentation and IT systems to evaluate impact and interventions
- Contribute to safeguarding compliance under college policies and reporting protocols
- Attend and participate in:
- Internal meetings: disciplinary hearings, learner reviews, caseload meetings, team discussions
- External processes: Child Protection Conferences and similar forums as required
- Develop, facilitate, and deliver:
- Enrichment activities on campus
- Transition support to aid learners entering college
- Promote positive behaviour in alignment with college values (Be Ready, Be Respectful, Be Safe)
- Support wellbeing priorities across the college, including:
- Learner Voice initiatives
- Equality and Diversity efforts
- Peer Mentoring programs
- Employability and Volunteering opportunities
- Collaborate with internal departments, such as Learner Support, Learning Support, and Curriculum Areas
- Partner with external stakeholders and agencies for holistic learner support
- Provide remote mentoring services to learners across all campuses
- Connect with external support providers and families to streamline cohesive student support packages
- Accompany learners to off-campus organised visits where relevant
- Attend required training sessions and maintain personal Continuing Professional Development (CPD) records

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Welsh Language Requirements
Welsh proficiency at:
- Level 2 (Oracy: Listening/Speaking**)*
- Level 2 (Literacy: Writing/Reading**) *
Note: Applications in Welsh or English are welcome and will be treated equally.
Essential Criteria
✓ Hold a Counselling Skills Qualification (or commit to achieving this within the first 12 months of employment) ✓ Be ASIST Certified ✓ Hold Youth Mental Health First Aid Certification ✓ Attain GCSE English (minimum Grade C/equivalent) ✓ Attain GCSE Mathematics (minimum Grade C/equivalent)
