About the Role

The College seeks to appoint a Wellbeing Mentor to provide targeted support primarily to learners and potential learners at risk of becoming NEET (Not in Employment, Education, or Training). This role will empower young people by helping them overcome barriers to learning and achieve successful learner outcomes.
The Wellbeing Mentor will complement the Wider Support Network of the Learner Experience Directorate and collaborate closely with Curriculum Areas. A high level of cooperation with other College staff will be essential to deliver this role effectively.
Key Responsibilities
As a member of the Wellbeing Team, the Wellbeing Mentor will contribute to achieving the following outcomes through the following duties:
- Provide mentoring support to targeted individual learners;
- Conduct referral and assessment procedures;
- Complete and maintain internal documentation and IT systems to ensure impact and interventions are measurable;
- Contribute to college safeguarding efforts in alignment with policy and reporting processes, attending and participating in:
- Internal meetings (e.g., disciplinary hearings, learner reviews, caseload meetings, team meetings);
- External meetings (e.g., Child Protection Conferences);
- Develop, facilitate, and deliver enrichment activities on campus for learners;
- Promote positive behaviour in line with the College’s **values: Be Ready, Be Respectful, Be Safe;
- Implement transition activities to support learners into College;
- Champion the wider Learner Well-being priorities, including:
- Learner Voice
- Equality & Diversity
- Safeguarding & Wellbeing
- Cariad (care and compassion)
- Peer Mentoring
- Employability
- Volunteering
- Liaise with internal departments, including:
- Other services within Learner Support
- Learning Support
- Curriculum Areas
- Transport
- Collaborate with external partners and stakeholders to offer effective support and signposting;
- Provide remote support to learners as required, including to learners across all Campuses;
- Coordinate effectively with colleagues, external support providers, and student families to ensure a comprehensive package of support for learners;
- Support learners in attending organised off-campus visits when applicable;
- Attend relevant training and maintain own Continuing Professional Development (CPD) records.

Welsh Language Requirements
- Oracy (Listening/Speaking) – Level 2
- Literacy (Writing/Reading) – Level 2
Applicants may submit their application in Welsh, and this will not be treated less favourably than an application made in English.
Essential Criteria
(If not already held, the following qualifications must be achieved within 1 year of appointment.)
- Counselling Skills Qualification
- ASIST Certified
- Youth Mental Health First Aid Certified
- GCSE English (at least Grade C or Level 4/O Level equivalent)
- GCSE Mathematics (at least Grade C or Level 4/O Level equivalent)
- Relevant experience of working with young people who have a range of learning and personal support needs
- Proven ability to act as a good communicator with diplomacy and tact
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Capacity to work harmoniously with colleagues
- Effective presentational skills
- Competency to relate to the target group
Desirable Criteria
- Qualification at Level 3 or above
- Good computer literacy skills
