Advanced Transducer Development, Wet Chemistry and Analytical Process Engineer

At Seagate our mission is to build the world’s best data storage devices. The Advanced Transducer Development group is a global R&D organization that develops new recording head technologies to advance areal density and enable Seagate’s HDD (Hard Disk Drive) 4-year+ product roadmap. Our process team uses state-of-the-art wafer fabrication tools and cleanroom facilities to innovate and deliver leading-edge writers and read sensors. With an emphasis on proving feasibility of new devices, processes, and materials, we help build Seagate’s future time-to-market leadership.

If you are excited by innovative technology development, are naturally creative, and passionate about seeing ideas come to life, then this role could be a perfect fit for your career.

About the Role

We are seeking a Wet Chemistry and Analytical Process Engineer to join the Advanced Transducer Development team at our Springtown (STST) site in Derry / Londonderry, Northern Ireland. In this hands-on role, you will:

  • Work with state-of-the-art wet-etch and Electrodeposition systems to develop robust and manufacturable processes.
  • Partner closely with integration, device, and manufacturing teams to deliver high-quality, production-ready solutions.
  • Collaborate with equipment vendors and academic partners to explore new wet chemistry techniques.
  • Help shape Seagate’s future process technologies and evolve our manufacturing lines to accelerate next-generation HDD product delivery.

This is a full-time, on-site position (39 hours/week, Monday–Friday).

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, characterize, and optimize wet etch and chemical clean processes for surface preparation, material removal, and integration flows.
  • Design and implement electrochemical deposition and plating processes (with emphasis on bath chemistry development and optimization).
  • Serve as the technical lead for analytical testing and method development for plating baths, thin films, and wet processes.
  • Utilize electrochemical techniques such as:
    • Voltammetry
    • Potentiostat measurements
    • Rotating disk electrode methods
  • Create and maintain chemical control strategies to stabilize key process parameters, including:
    • Chemical calculations
    • Bath make-up and adjustments based on analytical data
  • Maintain and operate analytical laboratory equipment (e.g., ICP, HPLC, UV spectroscopy, titration, LXRF) and liaise with vendor support teams.
  • Investigate and resolve process excursions, contamination issues, and chemical instabilities.
  • Support integration of wet/plating processes into wafer builds, assessing downstream effects on device performance.
  • Conduct data analysis, modelling, and simulations (tools include Matlab, Comsol–).
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with integration, deposition, device, and manufacturing teams.
  • Maintain comprehensive process documentation of recipes, results, and best practices.
  • Contribute to Seagate’s IP portfolio through innovation, patents, and technical publications.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
