WHISPER ACADEMY – WHISPER CYMRU - TRAINEE CAMERA OPERATOR

We are looking for a Trainee Camera Operator to join the Whisper Academy & work at Whisper Cymru.
The successful candidate will be embedded within the Whisper Cymru team working on projects such as:
- Domestic Pathway Rugby for S4C
- Women’s Six Nations for BBC
- Formula for Channel 4
- Digital content for brands such as The British & Irish Lions, Welsh Rugby Union
- Documentaries for a range of broadcasters in Wales & further afield.
This is a great opportunity for a candidate keen to launch their career in the creative industry, working alongside and learning from the in-house team, as well as gaining valuable experience to move their career forward at the end of the placement.
This is a 12-month paid placement, starting ASAP.

Whisper Academy
The Whisper Academy was set up to address a number of challenges facing both the production industry and people looking to start a career in television.
The industry needs people with hands on experience using the latest technology and for people looking to break into a career in TV it can be challenging getting on the first rung of the ladder.
The Whisper Academy offers real experience working on live projects. Learning from sector experts, earning a salary and gaining real-world skills.
Previous Academy trainees are now working in areas as diverse as production management, camera work and editing, editorial and as specialist EVS operators.
The most recent cohort have worked on projects including the Women’s Rugby World Cup, Formula 1, the Six Nations and the Winter Paralympics.

Camera Operator
A camera operator is a vital technical and creative professional who operates cameras and auxiliary equipment to capture moving images for film, television, live broadcasts, or digital media. They translate the director's vision into striking visuals by carefully planning, framing, and capturing each shot.
This trainee position will also include being across kit management and bookings of kit.
Candidate essential experience and skills
- Desire to build a career in the creative industry as a camera operator.
- An interest in learning more about the technical aspects of cameras as well as the creative
- Competent across a range of IT software including MS Office and Outlook
- Ability to work in pressurised environments and deal with unexpected challenges
- Ability to work collaboratively and in a team
- Good communication skills
- Proactive and enthusiastic approach to working
- A love of a wide range of sports
Candidate Desirable Experience and skills
- Good working knowledge of a range of cameras.
- Basic understanding of sound and lighting
Location:
The base for this position is Cardiff, Wales.
Working Days:
- 5 day week, all office based.
- This role will require a degree of flexibility and weekend working. You will be expected to work with the team to plan a schedule based on production requirements.
- Lieu days will be given for any days worked over a five-day week.
- Whisper offers the option of flexitime hours subject to production requirements.

August 2026 on a 12-month contract
