WHS Remediation Site Manager – Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) Due Diligence & Remediation Team

As the WHS Remediation Site Manager, you will play a crucial role in protecting communities and the environment by overseeing the safe and compliant remediation of contaminated sites across multiple stakeholder teams.
About the Role
You will provide technical oversight, guidance, and regulatory compliance support to internal and external construction, design, and operating teams at impacted sites. Responsibilities include managing contaminated site remediations post-due diligence, coordinating environmental controls, and ensuring adherence to all legal and regulatory obligations.
Key Responsibilities
Project and Remediation Management
- Develop and oversee multi-team programmes to ensure safe, compliant site management of contaminated properties.
- Assume departmental ownership of post-due diligence contaminated sites, coordinating engineering controls, use restrictions, and regulatory reporting.
- Provide technical guidelines and reviews for engineering control designs prepared by external vendors.
Pre-Construction and Tender Support
- Support pre-construction planning by delivering technical information for tender packages, ensuring health, safety, and environmental compliance are integrated.
- Review tender responses from contractors to assess inclusion of required design and remediation standards.
- Validate Material Management Plans (MMPs) and Site Management Plans (SMPs) for alignment with Amazon’s environmental requirements.

On-Site Oversight
- Coordinate, inspect, and oversee sub-surface construction activities, including contractors and environmental consultants.
- Conduct inspections of contaminated site capping and containment systems to ensure functionality and compliance.
- Monitor project schedules and document all compliance-related activities for auditing purposes.
Stakeholder & Risk Communication
- Communicate environmental risks across design, construction, operations, and renovation teams.
- Identify and mitigate risks through collaboration with preconstruction, design, and construction partners.
- Engage with regulatory agencies, landowners, and contractors to ensure alignment on remediation approaches.
Regulatory Compliance & Renovation Support
- Ensure all site development and operational phases meet regulatory requirements.
- Support contaminated site renovations within Amazon’s asset portfolio, as capacity allows.
Basic Qualifications
Experience
- Proven experience in construction or project management, particularly in environmentally sensitive sectors.
- Strong skills in verbal and written communication with senior management, regulators, and stakeholder teams.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in:
- Geology
- Environmental Science
- Chemistry
- Chemical or Environmental Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Related field (aligned with the European Qualifications Framework (EQF)).

Technical Proficiencies
- Ability to read, interpret, and create construction drawings, specifications, and submittals.
- Experience with remediated site management, ideally including PFAS exposure.
- Familiarity with environmental regulatory frameworks, compliance, and reporting requirements.
- Hands-on experience with containment systems, caps, and vapour intrusion mitigation.
- Knowledge of property restrictions (deeds) and land-use controls.
Tools & Methods
- Proficiency in data management, documentation, and site monitoring.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant technical discipline.
- Certifications (e.g., in environmental science, remediation, or health and safety).
- Experience in large-scale commercial remediation projects.
