Wind Turbine Technician

Turbine O&M Technician – Near Cambridge, England

This Turbine O&M Technician role, based near Cambridge, England, will see you supporting the Turbine O&M Team in critical projects while resolving mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic system issues. We're looking for skilled professionals with expertise in Wind Turbines, particularly those familiar with Vestas V80 MK2 and V5 models.


Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will:

  • Offer technical assistance in resolving ongoing system issues and driving technical improvements.
  • Contribute to high-quality maintenance activities and support business growth.
  • Act as a good communicator, proficient in written and verbal correspondence.
  • Prepare Risk Assessments (RA), Method Statements, and other site-specific procedures.
  • Maintain strong Health, Safety, Quality & Environmental (HSEQ) awareness.
  • Be adaptable and prepared for UK & Ireland travel as project demands arise.

Essential Technical & Operational Areas:

  • Fault-finding capabilities across Electrical, Mechanical & Hydraulic systems.
  • Knowledge of gearbox inspections (training provided if required).
  • Proficiency using vibration analysis, ultrasound, bore scopes, and thermal imaging.
  • Hands-on experience with blade repairs.
  • Contribution to on-site technical issue resolution and implementing technical improvements.
  • Execution of major component replacements (e.g., bearings, blades).
  • Specification & procurement of tooling requirements.
  • Technical audits and assessment reporting.
  • Ability to develop and deliver on-site training.

Advantageous (But Trainable) Capabilities:

  • Knowledge of team leadership in O&M settings.
  • Subcontractor co-ordination experience.
  • Certification in:
    • Working at Height (WTSR)
    • Management of Health & Safety (CoSSH, MS activities)

Essential Qualifications & Experience

Knowledge & Skills

✔ Technical background in mechanical or electrical systems. ✔ Wind Turbine maintenance (preferably Vestas technologies). ✔ Large component exchanges (e.g., blades, drives). ✔ Heavy lifting operations for turbine repairs. ✔ High-rise working techniques. ✔ Microsoft Office proficiency.

Qualifications

✅ Mechanical/ Electrical Engineering Qualification (minimum Level 3 NVQ).
