The Role

As a Windows Infrastructure Engineer, you will provide hands-on support and administration across our Microsoft server environment while helping maintain the stability, security, and performance of our internal infrastructure.

Working alongside the wider Technical Services team, you will take ownership of infrastructure tasks, document procedures, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

This role suits someone who is comfortable working independently and can confidently manage infrastructure without requiring close supervision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer and support Windows Server 2019 and 2022 environments.
  • Manage and maintain Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID.
  • Support and troubleshoot Windows Failover Clustering environments.
  • Administer Hyper-V virtual infrastructure.
  • Manage Microsoft 365 administration, including user management and licensing.
  • Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate routine administration tasks.
  • Support networking infrastructure, including VPNs, switches, routing, and firewalls.
  • Monitor and maintain backup solutions, ensuring successful backups and recoverability.
  • Produce and maintain clear technical documentation, procedures, and system diagrams.
  • Assist with infrastructure upgrades, maintenance, and security improvements.
  • Work within Cyber Essentials and ISO-governed environments, ensuring compliance with company standards.
  • Participate in troubleshooting and resolving complex infrastructure issues.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong experience supporting Windows Server 2019 and 2022.
  • Excellent knowledge of Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID.
  • Experience administering Windows Failover Clustering.
  • Strong Hyper-V administration skills.
  • Microsoft 365 administration experience.
  • PowerShell scripting and automation experience.
  • Good understanding of networking principles, VPNs, switches, DNS, DHCP, and firewalls.
  • Experience supporting medium-sized server environments (approximately 100–300 servers).
  • Ability to produce clear technical documentation.
  • Experience working within Cyber Essentials and/or ISO-compliant environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with Datto backup solutions.
  • Exposure to modern scripting or automation technologies.
  • Experience with infrastructure monitoring tools.
  • Microsoft certifications would be advantageous.
