Job Introduction
Salary: Starting salary of £46,274.44 per annum which consists of a base salary of £34,717.36 plus 20% shift allowance and £4,613.61 London allowance per annum.
Contract Type: Permanent, Full time
Location: FHQ, 200 Buckingham Palace Road, London, SW1W 9TJ
Type of Working Arrangement: Blended approach of home and office-working is available
Hours: 37 hours per week, the working hours for this role can be unsocial as it involves a 24/7/365 shift pattern that includes early starts, late finish times and night shifts

The Opportunity
Are you looking for your next exciting career move? British Transport Police have an excellent opportunity for a Witness & Case Review Officer to join the Criminal Justice Unit. As a Witness and Case Review Officer with BTP, you will be responsible for all aspects of evidential case file review and witness care in-line with the Criminal Justice timeframes and procedures. This will include evidentially reviewing case files; managing witness care; facilitating CPS Charging advice; providing guidance on national file standards; advising on disclosure requirements; quality assuring and providing case file guidance and Niche case file preparation.
What You'll Be Doing
- Prepare case papers in consultation with the OIC for referral to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), ensuring files are submitted in accordance with the CPS requirements including RASSO & ABC cases.
- Raise Postal Requisitions, as and when required, within set timescales and guidelines.
- Review case files and provide guidance to OICs and Supervisors on evidential and Criminal Justice requirements, including CPIA and NFS requirements.
- Build and maintain effective links between the National Justice Unit and other external stakeholders such as the Crown Prosecution Service and other agencies to optimise working relationships.
What You'll Bring To The Team
- Proven experience in evidence reviews or case file preparation
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbally, and excellent report writing/keyboard skills.
- High attention to detail, be self-motivated and able to cope with sensitive, stressful/pressured situations and must be able to empathise with victim/witness of crime. Must be able to prioritise, manage time effectively and work to targets
- Ability to persuade, negotiate and influence others, providing sound and justified rationale

Additional Information
During training, you will be expected to work full-time from the office but once completed, a hybrid working arrangement is available, with a mix of home and office working. The team operates a rota covering 24/7 service delivery, including weekday, weekend, and overnight shifts. Typical shift patterns range from early starts (07:00–16:00), late turn (13:00–23:00), and nights (21:00–07:00), with rostered rest days. Specific working patterns will be discussed during the recruitment process.
