Wordings Analyst
General
Job Title: Wordings Analyst
Division: First Party (Property)
Reports To: As per Beazley’s organisation chart
Key Relationships:
- Head of First Party Wordings
- Underwriters
- Claims staff
- Other staff and brokers
About the Role
To review, agree, and draft contract wordings across all First Party lines of business, which includes Commercial Property, Jewellery, Fine Art Specie, Delegated Authority, Contingency, Political Violence, Personal Accident, Marine, and Aviation. To communicate and collaborate with all First Party Underwriters and other key stakeholders as directed by the Head of First Party Wordings.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and quality control all slips and wordings within the Property Group and requested areas across First Party business lines.
- Review consumer contracts ensuring compliance with latest consumer legislation.
- Conduct Contract Certainty, Tax, and Regulatory checks on slips written within the Property Group, as required.
- Monitor and follow up for outstanding wordings and documentation from brokers when necessary.
- Attend and contribute to Conduct Review Group meetings, if required.
- Advise underwriters on the merits/demerits of forms/clauses used in slips.
- Develop network opportunities to identify best practices and formalise standardised guidelines based on wordings experience.
- Liasise with brokers, monitor returned slips, and track wording changes.
- Stay informed of legal and legislative developments affecting the company and the department.
- Train and educate others on technical, legal, and regulatory matters (Underwriting/Claims staff).
- Develop expertise in wordings and business operations.
- Manage an administrative database for policy wordings, as needed.
- Ensure Compliance with Conduct Risk legislation and regulatory requirements for all wordings.
- Conduct bi-annual audits of wordings, ensuring compliance with the RAG document for respective lines of business.
- Draft and review wordings across all relevant business areas.

Personal Specification
Education & Qualifications
- Minimum A Levels in English Literature and English Language.
- Professional qualifications, such as ACII, or equivalent.
Skills & Abilities
- Proven ability to draft wordings and clauses.
- Strong attention to detail in contract reading.
- Negotiation skills.
- Broad knowledge of wordings across relevant commercial and insurance markets.
- Accurate and numerate with excellent analytical skills.
- Clear communication (both written and verbal).
- Strong time management, prioritisation, and deadline adherence.
- Advanced computer skills (proficient in MS Office, Excel).
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Knowledge & Experience
- Proven experience in the insurance industry.
- Comprehensive understanding of wordings, legal, and regulatory guidelines.
- Commercial and financial knowledge.
Aptitude & Disposition
- Self-motivated, flexible, and enthusiastic.
- Professional demeanour when engaging with managers, colleagues, and external suppliers.
- Diplomatic in approach and communication.
