About The Role
TEKsystems is seeking an experienced WordPress Engineer / Architect for a contract opportunity within a Tier 1 financial services organization. This role is pivotal in supporting a high-profile internal communications platform as it transitions from a third-party vendor to internal ownership. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in WordPress development, platform architecture, and performance optimization. Working in a hybrid environment with locations in London, Birmingham, Sheffield, or Edinburgh, the successful applicant will provide technical leadership, oversee platform governance, and collaborate with global teams to ensure the platform remains scalable, secure, and efficient. Qualifications
The ideal candidate should have a strong background in WordPress development and architecture, with proven experience managing enterprise-scale platforms. Essential qualifications include:
- Advanced WordPress development skills, including custom theme and plugin creation
- Experience managing multisite environments
- Solid understanding of WordPress security best practices, performance tuning, and migration processes
- Technical proficiency in PHP, JavaScript/React, HTML5, CSS3, MySQL, REST APIs, Git, and CI/CD pipelines
- Experience with caching strategies, database optimization, and application monitoring
- Track record of delivering large-scale upgrades, migrations, and supporting scalable solutions within complex enterprise environments
Responsibilities
- Design and architect scalable, enterprise-grade WordPress platforms aligned with organizational needs
- Develop, customize, and maintain WordPress themes and plugins to enhance platform capabilities
- Lead and support migration, upgrade, and transformation initiatives to ensure seamless platform transitions
- Establish and enforce platform governance, security standards, and development best practices
- Drive performance optimization efforts, including caching strategies and scalability planning
- Implement and manage caching solutions such as server-side caching, object caching, and CDN integrations
- Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve application performance issues proactively
- Collaborate effectively with globally distributed engineering and delivery teams to ensure alignment and best practices
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and architectural guidance to development teams
- Support modern software delivery practices, including CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes
