About the Role
Based in Employability Services at our Chelmsford campus, the Work-Based Learning (WBL) Officer plays a pivotal role in helping students secure and excel in work placements, work experience, and other work-based learning opportunities, directly enhancing their employability.
Key Responsibilities

Student Support & Recruitment Coordination
- Guide students through securing placements, work experience, and other work-based learning opportunities.
- Collaborate with employers, academic colleagues, and external partners to identify and promote placement opportunities.
- Coordinate recruitment events and onboarding activities to foster positive employer-student engagement.

Placement Management & Delivery
- Provide ongoing support to students and employers throughout the placement process, ensuring a smooth and effective experience.
- Monitor placement educational frameworks, ensuring standards are met and aligned with academic requirements.
- Act as a primary point of contact for both students and employers.

Employability Service Provision
- Deliver first-line careers information and employability advice, addressing students’ needs during critical transitional periods.
- Support Service events and workshops aimed at developing professional skills and workplace readiness.
- Contribute to digital and social media content to promote opportunities and services across the University.

Front-Line Operations & Engagement
- Support front-line Service operations on campus (minimum 80% week presence).
- Foster a welcoming environment for students and stakeholders as the first point of contact.
- Maintain accurate records for placement activities and student support.
About You – Key Requirements
This role is ideal for a proactive, customer-focused professional with a combination of:
- Qualifications or experience: A degree, relevant professional qualification at degree level, or substantial workplace experience with evidence of continuing professional development.
- Admin/Education/Placement experience: Demonstrated ability in placement coordination, student support, recruitment, or related fields.
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent organisational and communication skills (oral and written).
- + Experience building rapport with diverse stakeholders, including students, employers, and academic teams.
- Technical Proficiency:
- Skilled in using digital systems and databases to organise records efficiently.
- Ability to manage competing deadlines while maintaining high-quality customer service.
- Support & Advocacy Mindset:
- Insight into student/graduate challenges in securing work placements and developing professional skills.
- Comfortable navigating workplace learning frameworks and delivering an inclusive, supportive service.
