Workday Functional Consultant
About the job you're considering
We are looking for an experienced Workday Functional Consultant to join our growing Workday Practice and help our clients design, configure, test and adopt modern Workday HCM solutions. This is a client-facing, hands-on delivery role for someone who combines Workday functional knowledge, configuration experience and strong consulting skills.
You will work across Workday HCM engagements, collaborating with client stakeholders, process specialists, technical teams, data teams and delivery leaders to translate business needs into practical, best-practice Workday solutions. You will also contribute to the continued growth of our Workday capability by sharing knowledge, supporting delivery improvement activity and helping develop reusable assets across the practice.
Hybrid working: The places that you work from day to day will vary according to your role, your needs, and those of the business; it will be a blend of Company offices, client sites, and your home; noting that you will be unable to work at home 100% of the time.
Your Role
As a Workday Functional Consultant, you will support and deliver functional design, configuration and testing activity across the delivery lifecycle. You will participate in workshops, document requirements, configure Workday, support design decisions, help manage cross-functional dependencies and work with clients through testing, deployment and adoption.
You will be expected to bring a modern consulting mindset: practical, outcome-focused and comfortable helping clients understand how to use Workday capabilities, data, automation and emerging AI-enabled functionality responsibly and effectively.
Functional leadership and solution design:
- Support functional workstreams across Workday HCM implementations, enhancements and optimisation projects.
- Participate in discovery, design and validation workshops with client stakeholders to understand business requirements, pain points and desired outcomes.
- Translate client requirements into clear functional documentation and Workday configuration inputs aligned to standard functionality, deployment methodology and leading practice.
Configuration, testing and delivery:
- Undertake Workday configuration activity, ensuring solutions are accurate, maintainable and aligned to agreed design principles.
- Support data mapping, conversion validation and integration design by advising on functional impacts and Workday data requirements.
- Support system testing, UAT, defect triage, cutover, go-live and early-life support activity.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
