Company Description

The Down’s Syndrome Association (DSA), founded in 1970, is a national charity supporting people with Down’s syndrome throughout their lives. With over 20,000 members and more than 100 affiliated local groups across the UK, DSA provides information, advice, and advocacy to individuals, families, carers, and professionals. The association promotes access to high-quality healthcare, inclusive education, meaningful employment, and full participation in community life. Key services include the DSA Helpline, the WorkFit supported employment program, and DSActive sports initiatives for children and adults. DSA works in partnership with employers and communities to create fair and sustainable opportunities for people with Down’s syndrome.

Role Description

This is a full-time remote role based in or around London for a WorkFit Officer. The WorkFit Officer will match jobseekers with Down’s syndrome to suitable employment opportunities, working closely with employers to understand their needs and create tailored placements. The role involves assessing candidates’ strengths and support requirements, providing ongoing guidance to jobseekers, and offering training and advice to employers on the Down’s syndrome learning profile. The WorkFit Officer will maintain accurate records, monitor progress, and report on outcomes to support service development and funding requirements. The role also includes collaborating with colleagues across the charity, contributing to outreach and awareness activities, and promoting inclusive employment practices.

  • Experience in employment support, ideally within supported employment or disability inclusion contexts.
  • Knowledge of or strong interest in learning about Down’s syndrome, inclusive practice, and reasonable adjustments in the workplace.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build trust with job-seekers, families, employers, and professional partners.
  • Organizational and case management skills, with the ability to manage a caseload, track outcomes, and meet deadlines while working remotely.
  • Experience delivering training, presentations, or workshops to groups, and confidence in engaging with employers at different levels.
  • Competence with standard IT tools (email, online meeting platforms, spreadsheets, databases, presentations, and Salesforce database platform) and willingness to learn internal systems.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a dispersed team, demonstrating resilience, empathy, and problem-solving skills.
  • Relevant education or professional background in employment services, social care, education, human resources, or a related field is advantageous.
  • Understanding of safeguarding principles and commitment to non-discriminatory, person-centered practice.
