The Role: Workforce Development Lead
This role has been developed to manage several key talent pipelines within SP Energy Networks (SPEN). The primary goal is to:
- Safeguard trainees through their training programmes.
- Lead development of new training programmes in collaboration with programme leaders and HR teams, aligning with Net Zero objectives.
- Conduct 12-weekly reviews to monitor trainee development, ensuring compliance with UK Government funding requirements.
Ideal candidates should possess:
- Extensive experience in people management, preferable with teams of large scale.
- A strong passion for developing others in a fast-paced environment.
- A high degree of flexibility, proactive mindset, and sound decision-making skills.
Responsibilities
As the Workforce Development Lead, your key responsibilities include:
- Safeguarding: Protecting trainees throughout their training programmes.
- Coaching & Mentoring: Leading, mentoring, and managing circa 50 trainees across diverse disciplines and programmes.
- Health & Safety Compliance: Ensuring trainees adhere to company Health & Safety standards.
- Relationship Management: Cultivating strong ties with trainees and business managers.
- Programme Development: Proactively overseeing current trainings and ensuring alignment with business needs.
- Performance Monitoring: Tracking trainee progress and implementing additional support as required.
- Stakeholder Coordination: Collaborating with key contacts in Health & Safety, HR, business managers, and external educational providers.
- Record-Keeping: Documenting trainee development conversations accurately and thoroughly.
- Provider Evaluation: Assessing training providers to guarantee effective education delivery.
- Regular Reviews: Conducting monthly reviews, ensuring meaningful one-to-one conversations with trainees.

Requirements
Essential
- Proven experience managing large teams (preferable in the energy sector).
- Comprehensive knowledge of company policies, including code of conduct, disciplinary procedures, and HR policies.
- Working familiarity with safeguarding principles (experience highly beneficial).
- Solid understanding of company Health & Safety rules and broader legislation.
- Strong communication skills (ability to connect with various stakeholders at financial, technical, and business levels).
- Track record of driving continuous improvement and person-centred development.

- Innovative problem-solving and adaptability in dynamic environments.
- Experience liaising with sponsors, funding bodies, or external programme coordinators.
