Working Foreman I-Cross Connection Inspector - Water Division
Duties: The purpose is primarily responsible for testing cross connection devices located on residential, industrial, commercial and institutional premises served by the public water system and tested according to the regulations, 310CMR122.22. In addition to testing, this position is also involved with determining if all cross connections are properly protected by an appropriate device and surveying the premises for cross connection locations. In addition, document device testing and survey results through maintenance of activity reports and any other information relating to the cross-connection program necessary for appropriate reporting to City, DEP or other officials. Through the use of a computer, maintain and enter all data collected from cross connection program as directed and ensure the data is accurate and available for reports or other uses. Communicate clearly any cross-connection violations to City and/or other personnel as required. Perform additional duties and responsibilities as instructed by Engineering management. Contact facility representatives to set up appointments for testing, surveying or as needed. Test backflow devices as required by regulations and prepare appropriate documentation as required by the program. Communicate outcome of test results to appropriate parties and fill out necessary documentation or reports, also follow up to resolve violations or test failures as required. Survey premises as instructed and when deemed necessary prepare appropriate documents. Prepare records of daily work activities, as specified, for review by supervisor/management. Support and maintain the data collected from performing the cross-connection program using computer/electronic/mechanical equipment. Develop schedule for testing of devices in City to meet compliance deadlines and keep supervisors. Input data for backflow device tests in to appropriate tracking software. Update and maintain the City database of Backflow devices and surveys. Compile data for year end and regulatory reports. Note the violations within City and follow up to ensure compliance. Communicate progress/concerns/issues with the performance of the program. Assist with the Water Sewer operation as requested. Perform other duties as required. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent is required; three to five years of related water and sewer experience. Experience in plumbing, heating and air conditioning desirable. Ability to read, understand and interpret complex blueprints, drawings and specifications. Ability to work closely with the public and others. Must show evidence of attendance at industry and regulatory seminars to keep current with the latest developments in the area of cross connection control. A valid Massachusetts Commercial driver's license. Must possess current certifications as a Massachusetts Certified Back Flow Prevention Device Tester and Massachusetts Certified Cross Connection Surveyor issued by the Department of Environmental Protection. Successfully passing Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI), background check and pre-employment physical with drug and alcohol screening are conditions of employment. This position reports to the Superintendent of Water and Sewer or designee.
