Workplace Technology Engineer (Smart Hands / Break Fix Engineer)

Location: Canary Wharf

Employment Type: Permanent

Salary: Up to £40,000

A leading technology infrastructure and data centre services provider is looking for an experienced Workplace Technology Engineer to support critical IT environments across enterprise and mission-critical facilities.

Working within customer data centres and technology rooms, you will deliver IMAC, IMACD, Break Fix and Smart Hands services, supporting server installations, structured cabling, hardware deployments and incident response while maintaining exceptional service levels.

This role would suit someone with previous experience supporting enterprise IT infrastructure, banking, financial services or mission-critical environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver IMAC, IMACD and Break Fix services across technology environments.
  • Install, rack and decommission servers, network equipment and storage devices.
  • Install equipment cabinets and PDUs.
  • Perform structured cabling installations, patching and cable management.
  • Complete copper and fibre patching activities.
  • Carry out cable tracing, testing and fault finding.
  • Perform hardware swaps and component replacements.
  • Support first and second-line technical activities.
  • Investigate alarms and assist with environmental monitoring.
  • Conduct technology room inspections.
  • Maintain accurate asset and cable database records.
  • Manage tickets through the client's ITSM platform.
  • Complete documentation, shift handovers and activity reporting.
  • Escort third-party contractors working within critical environments.
  • Support commissioning, moves, adds, changes and decommissioning projects.
  • Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with client standards.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working in enterprise IT, banking, financial services or mission-critical environments.
  • Experience delivering Smart Hands or Break Fix services.
  • Strong knowledge of structured cabling systems.
  • Experience installing servers, switches and network hardware.
  • Experience with copper and fibre cabling.
  • Competent using Fluke testing equipment.
  • Experience with rack & stack activities.
  • Knowledge of LAN and WAN connectivity.
  • Experience using ticketing systems such as ServiceNow, Jira or similar.
  • Knowledge of asset management systems.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and fault-finding skills.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently within live production environments.

Desirable

  • Data Centre experience.
  • Experience working within banking or financial services.
  • Knowledge of DCIM platforms.
  • Experience using Nlyte or similar asset management systems.
  • Knowledge of BMS or CMS monitoring systems.
  • CompTIA A+, Network+ or equivalent.
  • ECS or CSCS card.
