Job Title: Workshop Engineer
Location: Birmingham
Contract: Full-time, permanent

About the Role
You’ll join our Birmingham depot as a Workshop Engineer, ensuring servicing and repairs meet the highest standards. This role is crucial for delivering excellence to both internal and external customers, maintaining quality, efficiency, and safety in every task.
Key responsibilities include:
- Servicing and repairing Volvo construction equipment (and other machinery as required).
- Completing work on time and to specification, updating quotations as needed.
- Maintaining your personal toolkit for optimal task readiness.
- Ensuring software updates and compliance with electronic systems for time/job tracking.
- Accurately completing paperwork—including inspections, oil analysis reports, and parts ordering.
- Managing parts logistics to ensure timely availability and high condition standards.
- Supporting overtime when required, attending technical training to maintain competence.
- Adhering to SMT GB ISO standards for health, safety, quality, and environmental care.
Key Responsibilities
- Service and repair Volvo construction equipment and other machinery as needed.
- Carry out tasks in line with quotations and time guides, flagging any additional requirements.
- Maintain personal tools and equipment to ensure readiness for all tasks.
- Complete software updates and maintaining documentation compliance.
- Fill out inspection and oil sample reports, plus all required paperwork.
- Reload real-time electronic timelogs for job updates.
- Effectively source, order, and manage spares, ensuring timely delivery and condition standards.
- Provide orate support via overtime when operation demands.
- Participate in training courses to maintain technical competence.
- Follow SMT GB ISO protocols for health, safety, quality, and environmental best practices.

About You
You’re a reliable, detail-oriented engineer with a customer-focused, high-quality approach. Requirements include:
Essential
- Engineering qualification in Plant Maintenance, Agricultural or HGV mechanics (or equivalent).
- Workshop experience maintaining/repairing heavy construction plant.
- Strong technical knowledge of:
- Diesel engines
- Hydraulics
- Transmissions
- Drivetrain and electrical systems
- Exceptional communication skills with colleagues, managers, and customers.
- Cost-conscious mindset to optimise efficiency and profitability.
- Diagnostic and problem-solving skills to efficiently address issues.
- Basic IT proficiency for job tracking and reporting.
- Dedication to quality and standards, with high care and attention to detail.
- Reliability and professionalism at all times.
Desired
- Experience with welding, fabrication, or line boring.
