Workshop Engineer
Motor & Gearbox Repair Mechanical Fitting Technician
About the Role
Position: Permanent, Full-Time Location: Deritend (part of the Rubix Group) Founded: 1898 Client Base: Over 3,500 UK customers, including blue-chip manufacturers and globally recognised brands.
Business Focus: Specialist in optimising asset performance, including:
- Motors
- Gearboxes
- Pumps
- Machining, induction hardening
- Condition monitoring
- Fabrication services
Role Purpose: Responsible for inspecting, identifying defects, stripping, and repairing motor and gearboxes to customer standards.
Key Responsibilities
Main Tasks and Deliverables:
- Follow and enforce workflow procedures.
- Conduct and record plant maintenance.
- Dismantle, inspect, and assess rotating plant equipment, identifying appropriate fixes.
- Perform workplace risk assessments and method statement when needed.
- Provide technical support and guidance to staff and apprentices.
- Refurbish pumps and rotating equipment, including:
- Stripping
- Painting
- Maintain workshop presentation standards and keep working areas clean.
- Ensure work quality aligns with customer expectations.
- Deliver projects on schedule to meet customer deadlines.
- Follow strict stripping and inspection procedures for all parts.
- Perform on-site work at customer sites as required.
- Adhere to all company Health & Safety (H&S) policies to safeguard personnel.
- Foster a culture of safety as standard practice.
- Collaborate with customers to understand and address their needs, ensuring high service levels.
- Take personal responsibility to fulfil commitments and achieve customer satisfaction.

Requirements
Skills & Experience

Competence in:
- C&G Mechanical Fitting (Level 3: H03 or M84/M31 Mechanical Fitting) or equivalent experience.
- Fundamental knowledge of pump systems.
- Extensive experience with all types of pumps (hands-on, industry-proven).
- BPMA (British Pumps Manufacturers Association) qualification (advantageous but not required).
