Workshop Engineer (Pump)
Technician – Industrial Equipment Repair & Maintenance
Permanent | Full Time Location: Deritend (part of the Rubix Group)
About the Role
Deritend, part of the Rubix Group, provide 24/7 engineering services specialising in the repair, overhaul, installation, and maintenance of pumps, motors, gearboxes, compressors, hydraulic equipment, and a wide range of industrial machinery across multiple sectors.
This multi-skilled Technician role involves the installation, assembly, testing, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of industrial systems and equipment. You will work across workshops and customer sites, ensuring high-quality, compliant, and timely delivery of services.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Operational Duties
- Analyse job cards and work instructions to determine scope, status, limitations, and requirements.
- Inspect, test, assemble, and commission industrial equipment to ensure compliance with customer specifications and internal standards.
- Carry out fault diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of equipment safely and efficiently.
- Record in detail work undertaken, parts used, and time spent, ensuring accurate job documentation.
- Use precision measuring equipment, including Vernier calipers, micrometers, and dial test indicators.
- Operate workshop and site equipment safely, adhering to training and company procedures.
- Liaise with customers, colleagues, and management to provide updates and technical support.
- Deliver work to the required quality standards and on time.
- Strip down, repair, and reassemble a wide range of pumps, including:
- Centrifugal
- Submersible
- Multistage
- Progressive cavity
- Turbine
- Positive displacement (and other types)
- Perform shaft alignment, balancing, and performance testing.
- Occasionally perform sitework for installation, laser alignment, and commissioning.

- Promptly report hazards, near misses, and incidents.

Requirements
Key Skills & Experience
- Proven engineering/technical background in industrial maintenance.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical manuals.
- Hands-on experience with hand tools, workshop machinery, and test equipment.
- Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with colleagues and customers.
- Flexibility to work both in workshops and on customer sites.
Good-to-Have Qualifications & Certifications
- Recognised apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 (Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent).
- Specialist training/certification (e.g., lifting, confined space, electrical testing).
- Valid UK driving licence (preferred).
