Royal Mail is currently seeking an experienced Workshop Manager to lead operations at our North London site. As the Workshop Manager you will play a pivotal role in the delivery of cultural change. You will be accountable for the performance of your Workshop(s) in your area, with specific accountability for delivering performance against all key Maintenance scorecard indicators, including, Safety, Legal, Cost, People and Stakeholder performance measures.
This is a fantastic time to join the Royal Mail Fleet team as we progress on our journey towards net zero, targeting an all-electric delivery fleet by 2035. This is a huge undertaking with over 50,000 vehicles and trailer assets, from buying and selling vehicles, providing maintenance and accident repairs, to managing fuel and supplier contracts there are exciting roles for anyone wishing to pursue a career involving vehicle asset management.
About The Role
You will be critical to ensuring the delivery of Fleet performance and for meeting the requirements of the Operator in the most efficient and cost-effective way.
You will also:
- Be accountable for compliance to both legal and RM safety policies and meeting safety targets as well as delivering maintenance services and for optimising cost performance & forecasting through the use of the resource planning and booking tools
- Be responsible for optimising the efficiency of Fleet Workshops to meet industry standard performance levels and the deployment of all changes relating to Fleet Workshops
- Ensure effective engagement, communication and coaching to support and develop the Fleet Workshop team
- Be accountable for the achievement of all agreed targets, including internal Customer targets with SLAs through the use of effective performance management techniques
- Actively deploy, manage and support the maintenance of ISO 9001 quality standard within Fleet Workshops and support Continuous Improvement activity within the Workshops
- Effectively manage the local IR interface, working collaboratively with union colleagues to deliver change

You will also be responsible for any mobile sites and sub-locations under the control of the Workshop and/or Cluster.
About You
For this role you need to be fully qualified to at least advanced level (IMI Level 3) in Light or Heavy vehicle maintenance & repair or an equivalent qualification. You are an established team leader with relevant Industry knowledge and experience of dispersed maintenance operations.
You are also able to:
- Effectively manage and build relations with stakeholders
- Influence and deliver results through people
- Manage and build relations with Trade Union partners
- Lead, develop and coach to drive performance improvement.
All Workshop Manager roles require a high degree of flexibility to ensure effective cover across multiple shift operations and the successful candidate may be required to travel to other sites within your area of responsibility.
