Role Overview

The IT Workshop Manager oversees the day-to-day operations of the workshop, ensuring efficient build, repair, and deployment of IT equipment. This role focuses on managing workshop engineers, maintaining stock and processes, supporting project delivery, and upholding high-quality standards across all hardware-related services.


Key Responsibilities

Workshop Operations

  • Oversee all workshop activities, including builds, repairs, and equipment configuration
  • Ensure all hardware is built, tested, and delivered within agreed timelines
  • Manage booking-in and booking-out processes for equipment
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and efficient workshop environment

Hardware & Delivery

  • Oversee hardware builds (laptops, desktops, servers, printers) and pre-configuration of systems
  • Ensure devices are configured to agreed standards before deployment
  • Support project teams with pre-builds and deployment preparation

Stock & Procurement

  • Assist with procurement of hardware, consumables, and stock items
  • Monitor stock levels and ensure timely replenishment
  • Manage relationships with suppliers and track deliveries

Quality & Compliance

  • Monitor product and service quality, ensuring non-conformities are identified and addressed
  • Ensure workshop processes align with company procedures and ISO/QMS standards
  • Maintain accurate documentation for builds, repairs, and processes

People Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop workshop engineers and junior staff (Apprices)
  • Provide training and support to junior workshop roles
  • Manage performance, workload, and development plans for the team

Service & Collaboration

  • Collaborate closely with Service Desk, Projects, and Procurement teams for smooth service delivery
  • Support project delivery through build scheduling and prioritisation
  • Escalate risks or delays to senior management as required

Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Provide regular updates on workshop performance, capacity, and issues
  • Identify opportunities for efficiency, quality, and turnaround time improvements
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across the service function

Skills & Experience Required

  • Experience in an IT workshop, service desk, or hardware-focused role
  • Strong knowledge of IT hardware (PCs, servers, networking basics)
  • Previous experience managing or supervising a team (preferred)
  • Understanding of stock control and procurement processes
  • Familiarity with SLA, KPIs, and service delivery environments
