Workshop Manager - (Fabrication & Creative Projects)

Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time
An established engineering and fabrication business working across the live events, entertainment and specialist construction sectors is looking to appoint an experienced Head of Engineering to lead its fabrication department.
This is an opportunity to take ownership of a busy engineering function, managing a skilled team responsible for delivering bespoke fabricated structures and assemblies for a wide range of high-profile projects.
The Role
You'll provide both technical and operational leadership, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time and to the highest quality standards. Working closely with production and project teams, you'll oversee departmental planning, improve processes and support the ongoing development of your team.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the engineering and fabrication department.
- Plan workloads and allocate resources to meet project deadlines.
- Ensure high standards of fabrication quality, accuracy and workmanship.
- Drive continuous improvement across engineering processes and workshop operations.
- Promote and maintain excellent health, safety and environmental standards.
- Oversee the maintenance and safe use of workshop equipment.
- Mentor, develop and support engineers, fabricators and apprentices.
- Provide technical guidance during both workshop manufacture and site installation activities.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure successful project delivery.
About You
Essential
- Previous experience leading an engineering or fabrication team.
- Strong background in metal fabrication, structural steelwork or bespoke engineering projects.
- Proficiency in MIG and TIG welding.
- Ability to interpret detailed engineering and fabrication drawings.
- Experience managing projects, resources and production schedules.
- Strong understanding of workshop health and safety.
- Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills.

Desirable
- Engineering qualification (NVQ, HNC/HND, Degree or equivalent).
- Welding qualifications or coded welding certifications.
- Experience overseeing installation or site-based engineering activities.
