Electrical Workshop Technician & Trainer
Location: JTL Training Centre London South (Orpington)
Working Pattern/Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
Salary: Up to £38,350 depending on skills and experience.
Location Specific Technical Allowance: Some employees may receive an allowance of £2,000–£7,000 annually.
About the Role
A dual role combining hands-on workshop support with practical training delivery, shape how apprentices learn, practise, and apply their trade.

Responsibilities
You’ll manage both a high-quality workshop environment and tailor training to prepare apprentices for success.

Workshop Management
- Maintain a safe, well-organised environment equipped for high-quality hands-on training.
- Prepare materials, equipment, and training bays reflecting real industry standards.
- Embed employability skills, British values, equality and diversity, safeguarding, and health & safety into all training.
- Uphold high standards of behaviour, professionalism, attendance, and punctuality.
- Ensure stricter safeguarding of apprentices, prioritising their health and safety at all times.
- Maintain workshop supplies, tools, and equipment, keeping them compliant and operational.

Training & Assessment
- Deliver engaging AM2S preparation sessions and practical training, focusing on confidence and skills refinement.
- Provide individualised coaching (1:1 and group) to bridge skill gaps and optimise performance.
- Use assessment and observation techniques to track understanding, identify gaps, and scaffold progress.
- Offer clear, constructive, developmental feedback to support apprentices in achieving their best end-point assessment (EPA) results.

- Collaboration & Documentation
- Work closely with tutors, training officers, and centre staff to provide cohesive apprenticeship support.
- Maintain accurate records of training activity, equipment usage, and workshop compliance.
- Stay current with professional development through Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and industry updates.
Requirements
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- Must hold one of the following:
- Level 3 Installing and Commissioning Electrical Systems & Equipment.
- City & Guilds 2360 Part 1 and 2 certificates, or equivalent.
- Current knowledge of BS 7671 (IET Requirements for Electrical Installations).
- Qualified with a Level 3 Certificate in Inspection, Testing & Certification of Electrical Installations (2391-2394/5 or equivalent).
- Verifiable post-qualification or apprenticeship experience within the electrical services or facilities management sector.
- Practical maintenance skills tailored for electrical systems and workshops.
- Proven ability to support AM2S assessment (or willingness to train).
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- Prior experience delivering training or supporting practical apprenticeship learning.
- A training or teaching qualification (e.g., Level 3 AET, PGCE).
- Level 3 Assessor qualification.
- Familiarity with awarding organisation requirements and apprenticeship standards.
- Knowledge of digital learning tools or e-portfolio systems.
