Yard Administration Assistant
Location: Red Lodge, Bury St Edmunds
Salary: £13.00 per hour
Hours: Full-Time | Monday to Friday | 8:30am – 5:00pm
Join Our Team
We are looking for a motivated, organised and hands-on Yard Administration Assistant to join our busy salvage operation in Red Lodge.
Reporting to the Yard Operations Team Leader, you'll play an important role in supporting the day-to-day running of the site. This is a varied position that combines administration, customer service and practical yard support, making it ideal for someone who enjoys a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same.
You'll work closely with colleagues across the business to ensure our salvage operation runs efficiently while delivering excellent service to customers, buyers and suppliers.
About the Role
This is much more than a traditional administration role. While you'll be responsible for a wide range of administrative duties, you'll also be expected to support the wider Yard Operations team with practical tasks on site when required.
You'll need to be comfortable working both in an office environment and outdoors in the yard.
Key Responsibilities
Administration & Customer Support
- Process customer payments accurately.
- Process, check and file transport invoices.
- Liaise with the Finance team regarding buyer payments.
- Book vehicles in for collection and delivery.
- Process vehicle paperwork and maintain accurate records.
- Monitor emails, Microsoft Teams and internal systems, ensuring requests are actioned promptly.
- Update company portals and support Yard Operatives with PDA input.
- Deal professionally with customer enquiries and collection queries.
- Work closely with the Auction Services Team to resolve customer issues quickly.
- Coordinate vehicle collections and returns with transport providers.
- Arrange contractor visits and ensure vehicles are ready for inspection.
- Welcome visitors and contractors, ensuring site procedures and PPE requirements are followed.

Yard Operations Support
- Assist with vehicle identification and VIN number collection.
- Photograph vehicles to company standards.
- De-sticker vehicles ready for auction.
- Support vehicle washing and preparation.
- Assist with "Unable to Auction" activities.
- Help return personal belongings to policy holders, including packaging, labelling and arranging collections or dispatch.
- Obtain vehicle images and information for Engineering reports.
- Assist with vehicle processing and auction preparation.
- Support the Yard team with general operational duties as required.
Compliance
- Ensure waste carrier documentation is completed correctly.
- Verify licences for Category B vehicle collections.
- Complete documentation relating to vehicle releases and returns.
- Follow company procedures to ensure legal and regulatory compliance at all times.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who enjoys working as part of a team, takes pride in delivering excellent customer service and isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves when needed.
You'll ideally have:
- Strong administration and organisational skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
- The ability to prioritise workload and work accurately under pressure.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- A positive, flexible and proactive approach.
- A willingness to work both in the office and out in the yard.
- Previous administration or customer service experience (desirable but not essential).
