Role Overview

We are recruiting a Yard Operative to join our Acton team. This is a hands-on, customer-facing role based within the branch yard, responsible for receiving, storing and preparing building materials and ensuring the yard is safe, tidy and organised. The successful candidate will be reliable, safety conscious and adaptable, able to work as part of the branch team to support efficient operations and excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive deliveries into the yard, check goods against delivery notes and purchase orders, report discrepancies or damage to the Yard Supervisor and ensure items are stored in the correct locations.
  • Load and unload vehicles safely using appropriate manual handling techniques and mechanical aids (pallet truck, forklift where trained); assist drivers and customers at point of collection or delivery.
  • Prepare customer orders accurately and promptly, ensuring goods are picked, banded and secured correctly for dispatch or collection.
  • Operate yard equipment safely where authorised (e.g. pallet trucks, MEWPs, forklifts) following training and site procedures; report any defects or maintenance needs.
  • Maintain a clean, tidy and safe yard environment; remove waste and debris, stack materials safely and ensure aisleways and loading areas are clear.
  • Assist customers in a professional and courteous manner, providing basic product information and directing enquiries to branch staff as required.
  • Complete paperwork and electronic records accurately, including stock movements, returns and damage reports.
  • Adhere to company health and safety policies, wear appropriate PPE and follow site-specific rules; report incidents or near misses immediately.
  • Support peak periods and ad-hoc requirements across the Acton branch, working flexibly to meet business needs.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
