Galashiels Depot We are seeking a dependable and proactive Yard Operative to join our team at our Galashiels depot on a part-time basis, working one day each week. This is a hands-on role that is key to keeping our depot organised, safe and operating efficiently in support of our wider operational teams. In this role, you will be responsible for carrying out regular stock takes and supporting audits to ensure materials and equipment are accurately accounted for. You will take in deliveries, checking and organising items as they arrive, and ensuring they are stored correctly within the yard. A strong focus of the role is maintaining a clean, tidy and well-ordered yard environment, helping to prevent hazards and ensure the space remains safe and functional for all depot activities. You will also assist with the movement of materials and equipment around the site and support the wider depot team with general yard duties. What we expect of you We expect you to take pride in maintaining a safe, clean and well-organised working environment, ensuring the yard is kept in good order at all times. You will follow company health and safety policies and processes carefully and demonstrate safe working practices in everything you do. The role requires someone who can work reliably on their own initiative while also supporting the wider depot team when needed. A positive, proactive attitude and willingness to contribute to the smooth running of the depot are essential, along with a strong sense of responsibility and attention to detail. What you will bring You will have previous experience working in a yard, stores or similar environment and be comfortable taking a hands-on approach to your work. You should be confident managing tasks independently and prioritising your workload effectively. Good attention to detail is important, particularly when carrying out stock checks and handling deliveries. Experience operating plant such as a telehandler would be advantageous, although training can be provided for the right candidate. This is a great opportunity for someone looking for a flexible, part-time role within a supportive depot environment, where their contribution will make a real difference to daily operations. I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
