Yard Protection
About The Role
We are looking for a proactive, safety-focused Yard Protection to oversee the safe, efficient, and effective operation of our railway yard. This is a hands-on leadership role that combines operational supervision, safety management, contractor coordination, and quality assurance to ensure the yard operates to the highest standards.
As the Yard Protection Supervisor, you will play a critical role in maintaining a safe working environment, coordinating daily yard activities, supervising cleaning operations, and ensuring all trains, buildings, and infrastructure are maintained in line with company procedures. You will also act as the site's Fire Precautions Manager and designated First Aider (training will be given), making you a key figure in maintaining operational resilience and safety.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced operational environment, enjoys leading teams, and takes pride in delivering excellence while maintaining the highest safety standards.
What You'll Be Doing
As Yard Protection Supervisor, you will be responsible for:
- Delivering Yard Protection (YP) duties safely and efficiently, ensuring compliance with all operational procedures, policies, and industry standards.
- Supervising all day-to-day activities within Horsham Sidings, ensuring smooth and safe operations.
- Leading and coordinating train cleaning, servicing, and building maintenance activities to agreed quality standards.
- Inspecting trains, buildings, and infrastructure, reporting defects promptly and ensuring appropriate action is taken.
- Working closely with Network Rail and internal departments to coordinate operational activities.
- Supervising contractors working on site, ensuring work is completed safely and in accordance with company standards.
- Leading the cleaning team by monitoring performance, conducting quality audits, identifying improvement opportunities, and maintaining exceptional presentation standards.
- Recording and reporting all Health & Safety concerns, accidents, incidents, and near misses in accordance with company procedures.
- Acting as the site's Fire Precautions Manager and designated First Aider.
- Supporting operational requirements by undertaking additional duties appropriate to your skills, experience, and training.

Essential Skills & Experience
- Experience producing reports, completing documentation, and maintaining accurate operational records.
- Strong leadership and supervisory experience.

- Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills.

Leadership Responsibilities
As Site Supervisor, you will also:
- Ensure all staff understand and fulfil their safety responsibilities.
- Provide effective supervision, guidance, and support to team members.
- Ensure employees are trained, competent, and equipped to perform their duties safely.
- Monitor compliance with company procedures and operational standards.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, teamwork, and professionalism.
