Fruitmarket Freelance Artist Opportunity
Fruitmarket is looking for three freelance artists to deliver innovative, inclusive, and accessible creative projects with young people.
Youth ART Connects is a new program funded by the National Lottery Community Fund’s Young Start, designed to support young people aged 16-24 who are underrepresented within the cultural sector. It’s about changing who gets to make and shape culture – opening up Fruitmarket and saying clearly: you belong here!
Each artist recruited will be paired with one of our partner organizations: LGBT Youth Scotland, Intercultural Youth Scotland, and RNIB Haggeye. Each partner project will include 10 two-hour workshop sessions, delivered at Fruitmarket approximately once a month. Each project will be developed in response to Fruitmarket’s exhibitions and wider program.
This is a two-year contract, subject to a six-month review. This post, as part of the Youth ART Connects Project, is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund’s Young Start program.
What does this role involve?
- Plan and deliver a creative project using a co-production model working alongside a paid youth trainee, our partner organizations, and young people (aged 16-24).
- Work with and mentor a paid youth trainee (aged 18–24).
- Attend planning meetings.
- Be supported by the Fruitmarket Communities Project Coordinator.
- Be paid in line with Scottish Artist Union rates.
- All successful applicants will be subject to a PVG check for working with young people. We will also ask you to provide two suitable references.

- LGBT Youth Scotland: Monthly Friday workshops, starting in September.
- RNIB Haggeye: Monthly Saturday workshops, starting in September.
- Intercultural Youth Scotland: Monthly Thursday workshops, starting in November.

- A supporting statement (maximum 500 words), included within your CV, explaining how your skills, knowledge, and previous experience meet the requirements of the role, with reference to the job description and person specification. Within your supporting statement, please indicate clearly which partner project(s) you would like to be considered for – either working with LGBT Youth Scotland, Intercultural Youth Scotland, or RNIB Haggeye. You could also indicate more than one.
- A completed Equal Opportunities Monitoring Form.
- You may also include up to three website and/or social media links within your CV to showcase examples of relevant projects or creative work.
