Responsibilities

The ideal role demands enthusiasm, organisation, and engagement with young people of all abilities. Duties include:

  • Leading a range of activities, focusing on Citizenship, Art, Sport, Health, and Welsh (incl. Department for Education (DoE) and youth forums as needed)
  • Supporting young people to design, deliver, and evaluate club activities and services
  • Upholding safeguarding (local authority policies, grievances, equal opportunities, health & safety).
  • Informing the Worker in Charge of any safeguarding, incident, or grievance concerns
  • Completing youth club paperwork in alignment with local authority procedures
  • Attending three pre-term meetings per year, plus annual Employment Development Reviews
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge through training (including three mandatory sessions per term)
  • Creating projects/activities that broaden horizons and foster community cohesion

Requirements

No prior experience is required, but you must:

  • Be highly motivated, organised, and flexible
  • Have a strong desire to work with young people ages 11–24 in diverse settings
  • Commit to completing a Level 2/3 Youth Work qualification within 2 years
  • Once qualified, register with the Education Workforce Council (EWC)

Ideally, you’ll also have:

  • Knowledge of the Youth Work Curriculum for Wales
  • 4 GCSEs (A-C)* or equivalent
  • Your EWC registration before starting (if qualified)
