About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Youth Justice Officer to join Southampton Youth Justice within Southampton City Council. This is a key role in our multi-disciplinary team, where you will:
- Engage, assess, and work directly with children (ages 10–17) who are at risk of offending or have offended.
- Support vulnerable young people who pose a risk of harm to others in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
The Southampton Youth Justice Service is seeking a dedicated professional with:
- A strong background in child safeguarding and intervention.
- A commitment to victims' rights and evidence-based practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Prevent reoffending by working under the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 alongside multi-agency teams.
- Assess and intervene with at-risk children using tools like Asset+ and the Prevention and Diversion Assessment.
- Develop engagement plans, make referrals, and signpost children/families to supportive services.
- Manage high-risk caseloads, including alternative measures to custody (e.g., Bail ISS (Intensive Supervision and Surveillance)).
- Prepare pre-sentence risk assessments and provide recommendations in Court hearings.
- Support families in accessing universal services.
- Contribute to service improvement, quality assurance, and best practice implementation.
