Team Manager – Youth Justice and Prevention Service
Location: Primarily Kendal, Penrith, and Barrow (with focus in Eden and Kendal)** | Contract: Permanent
About the Role
An exciting opportunity has emerged for an experienced and driven leader to join the Westmorland & Furness Youth Justice and Prevention Service as a Team Manager.
This role seeks a values-driven, innovative leader passionate about championing children and young people at risk of—or already involved in—the youth justice system. In this key position, you’ll have the chance to:
- Shape practice and lead transformative change
- Drive trauma-informed, child-centred interventions
- Work to reduce reoffending and divert first-time entrants from the justice system
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a multidisciplinary team, fostering high-quality practice across prevention, intervention, and resettlement
- Oversee the full youth justice pathway, from statutory orders to community safety and reintegration
- Provide operational leadership, including duty management and strategic decision-making for complex cases
- Champion performance and quality assurance, ensuring adherence to national standards and safeguarding protocols
- Strengthen interagency collaboration with children’s services, police, health, and community partners
- Contribute to service development, pioneering innovative approaches to meet evolving needs

The Service in Context
Our Youth Justice Service delivers across four critical areas:
- Primary prevention: Leaving children out of the justice system early
- Out-of-court and court disposals: Supporting to positively diverge orders
- Custodial and resettlement support: Maximising reintegration for detained young people
- Victim services and restorative justice: Victim involvement and reconciliation practices

Person Specifications
We’re looking for an applicant with:
- Significant experience working with offending children/youth
- Proven risk management skills in complex casework scenarios
- Multi-agency leadership experience to broker partnerships for optimal outcomes
- Commitment to high standards: trauma-informed practice and evidenced-based approaches
- Leadership ability: Motivate teams, develop staff, and cultivate a culture of accountability
A professional qualification in youth offending, social work, or related field is required, along with readiness (or willingness) to pursue national youth justice practice certifications.
Note: Presentation forms part of the interview process.
