Are you ready to make a real difference by helping prevent care escalation, placement breakdowns, or facilitating placement step-downs? Join us as a Youth Practitioner, where every day is an opportunity to inspire, support, and empower.

About the Role

As part of a dynamic team, you’ll provide direct care within residential settings and community-based interventions for young people on the edge of care or in foster placements. You’ll:

  • Build relationships with young people and families
  • Deliver tailored support and interventions
  • Foster life skills to empower young people to thrive

Training and Development

Dorset Council offers a comprehensive training programme designed for professional growth and development. Whether new to the sector or experienced, our programme includes:

Professional Qualifications (fully funded):

  • Level 3 Diploma in Childcare
  • Level 4 Therapeutic Certificate in Childcare
  • Support for Maths & English if needed

Core Skills & Induction:

  • Structured onboarding programme
  • Safeguarding, trauma-informed care, and behaviour management
  • First aid and health & safety training

Ongoing Development:

  • Monthly reflective supervision and peer learning
  • Access to e-learning, workshops, and specialist courses
  • Expert training in therapeutic care, attachment, child development, and neurodiversity

Career Progression:

  • Clear routes to Senior Youth Practitioner and Team Leader roles
  • Leadership programmes, coaching, and mentoring

Requirements

You must be or willing to gain a QCF Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (or equivalent), and:

  • Be resilient, empathetic, and skilled in forming meaningful connections
  • Deliver proactive, solution-focused interventions
  • Celebrate individuality and support diversity
  • Thrive in a flexible role, including evenings, weekends, and sleep-in duties

Additional Requirements:

  • Must have a personal vehicle (or one we deem suitable) for erratic travel
  • DBS check required due to working with children/vulnerable adults
  • Must have/be able to obtain Right to Work status in the UK
