About the Role

Ready to step into a dynamic world of animal care, conservation and unforgettable guest experiences as a Hoofstock Zoo Keeper at Chessington World of Adventures Resort?

At Chessington, our adventurers don’t just visit a zoo: they enter a living, breathing environment where every habitat inspires, educates, and protects. As part of the Hoofstock Team, you’ll play a vital role in the day-to-day care of species like zebra, giraffe, rhino and domestic animals, ensuring optimum animal welfare standards.

Collaborating with the Zoo Supervisor and wider team, you’ll support safe and effective zoo operations, focusing on:

  • Animal husbandry and welfare
  • Guest experiences and education
  • Conservation and business objectives

Key Responsibilities

  • Zoo Operations
    • Contribute to daily management and care of hoofstock species (e.g., zebra, giraffe, rhino).
    • Assist in maintaining high standards of animal health, nutrition, veterinary support, and enrichment in line with Zoo Licence and Wales Act 2021 requirements.

  • Animal Records & Compliance

    • Maintain accurate animal records and documentation using ZIMS (Zoo Information Management System).
    • Support standardised reporting to meet regulatory and compliance needs.
  • Guest Engagement & Education

    • Deliver VIP experiences and animal presentations with professionalism.
    • Inspire guests through educational talks and interactive engagement activities.
  • Training & Conservation Support

    • Participate in animal training and veterinary procedures, including capture/restraint.
    • Assist with wider Resort initiatives, such as conservation projects, education programmes, and research.
  • Team Collaboration & Improvement

    • Work alongside colleagues to enhance guest experience, engagement time, and animal care.
    • Collaborate cross-functionally in a fast-paced operational environment.

Requirements & Qualifications

Experience & Skills

  • Preferred: Degree in Animal Science, Zoology, Biology, or a related field.
  • Essential:
    • Proven experience in zoo or equivalent animal care settings.
    • Strong background in hoofstock species management (e.g., zebra, giraffe, rhino).
    • Knowledge of hunting standards with tropical bird species or exotic animals advantageous.
    • ZIMS experience (or willingness to learn); expertise in animal record-keeping.
    • Familiarity with vcapture, restraint, veterinary procedures, and safety protocols.
    • Experience in guest-facing roles, including tales, presentations, and animal pathology training.
    • Robust understanding of health & safety procedures, risk assessments, and best practices.
