About the Organisation
Canaan Trust is an independent charity and company limited by guarantee, established in 1995. We support individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness across the Borough of Erewash and neighbouring Broxtowe.
Our services include:
- A public office in Long Eaton (Main Street).
- Two houses for homeless men.
- One house for homeless women.
- 24/7 support, year-round, addressing:
- Homelessness.
- Insecure accommodation.
- Benefits assistance.
- Debt relief.
- Food poverty.
As a Christian charity, we welcome people of all religions and none, but the role of Chief Officer holds a Genuine Occupational Requirement (GOR) for a practising Christian under Part 1 of Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010.

Key Responsibilities
The Chief Officer will oversee a small to medium-sized charity and drive its strategic vision. Key responsibilities include:
- Leadership in strategy, people management, finance, and performance.
- Ensuring financial sustainability, ethical income generation, and local relevance.
- Adhering to ethos: emphasising safeguarding, trust, and inclusion.
- Strong communication and relationship-building with diverse stakeholders.
- Influence, campaigning, and representing the organisation externally.

Requirements
Candidates are expected to have:
- Proven experience as a senior leader in a charity or values-driven organisation.
- Expertise in financial management and income generation.
- A values-based leadership approach, aligning with safeguarding principles.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and external advocacy skills.
